Nature-Obsessed Artist (Summer Program for Ages 10+)

Celebrate nature around us with exploratory art projects and mediums.

Designed especially for the tree hugger and flower child, this relaxed painting and drawing session will open up students’ creativity to the natural world around them. We’ll explore foraged botanicals with printmaking techniques, as well as adding inked lines and mixed media. We’ll look up to the sky as our inspiration for some bold watercolor compositions, as well as focusing on the smaller textures and tiny details of leaves and bugs for nature sketches. The entire week will celebrate the outdoors with art, using Mother Nature as our muse.

Our instructor, Lauren Beck, loves helping young creatives find their voice through digital tools and imaginative techniques. With her warm and inspiring teaching style, students will feel safe and excited to take creative risks and experiment in new ways.

Special guest, Amanda Seanor, a middle school art teacher who recently fell in love with experimental printmaking, will be joining us for one day to introduce gelli plate techniques.

📌 Note:

This camp is designed specifically for preteens or teens ages 10–17. To ensure the best creative experience, we ask that all participants fall within this age range when registering. Thank you!

Three-Day Breakdown:

  • Day One: BOTANICAL PRINTS!
Learn hands-on and experimental techniques in printmaking, using a gelli plate, with actual foraged leaves and blooms from outdoors.
  • Day Two: WATERCOLOR SKIES!
With bold washes of watercolor, capture the night sky, sunsets, or sun rises with abstracted landscaping.
  • Day Three: NATURE SKETCHING!
Zoom into leaves, bugs, flowers, or other natural subjects, and capture their beauty with detail colored pencil drawings.
  • OPTIONAL DAY FOUR can be added as "Open Friday Studio for Preteens & Teens" in order to finish up work or simply explore materials in a relaxed way, with the instructor present for feedback. (see more info below)

Daily Schedule:

We allow drop-off starting at 8:45am, with our program beginning at 9:00am and finishing at 12:00pm, for 3-hours of instruction each day. There will be a complimentary snack once per day, where students can relax and take a break from their art making, or they can continue working as they munch. Pickup begins at 12:00pm, with a buffer of 15 minutes.

Open Friday Studio for Preteens & Teens:

Oftentimes, students need some additional time to finish up projects, or they just are having too much fun to stop for the week! We are opening up Fridays in the summer for an additional add-on day, which will offer participants a relaxed timeframe to continue exploring, or even try a new medium in a low-stress way to finish out their week.

Instructors will be available for assisting the art making, but they'll act as more of a facilitator keeping kids on task, answering questions, or offering suggestions. This will not be a formal lesson!

These days will also be open to any preteens and teens to drop in for creative time, so kids can bring their friends or join in on other weeks during the summer, too. Each participant must have a paid ticket to join the session.

Interested in adding on our Open Friday Studio? Add on the specific date in your cart at any time. We can host up to 18 preteens and teens during these special Fridays.
