Digital Drawing on the iPad — Beginner Animation (Summer Art Program, Ages 10+)

✨Class Description

Draw, animate, and bring your imagination to life, expressing your ideas in motion!

In this immersive week-long summer program, learners will explore the exciting world of hand-drawn digital animation using iPads, Apple Pencils, and the amazing app called Procreate. Through step-by-step instruction and guided experimentation, participants will learn how to sketch, color, and animate original short scenes — all while discovering the basics of character design, motion, and visual storytelling. Whether brand new to Procreate or just getting started with animation, each learner will leave with a portfolio of playful animated clips and the confidence to keep creating on their own.

Our instructor, Lauren Beck, is a professional artist who specializes in digital illustration and teaching accessible, joyful creative skills to young learners. This camp is designed specifically for preteens or teens ages 10–17. To ensure the best creative experience, we ask that all participants fall within this age range when registering. Thank you!

✨What You'll Learn

• Explore the basics of digital drawing in Procreate using layers, brushes, and color tools, with an emphasis on animation features
• Learn simple animation techniques like looping, bouncing, and morphing, crafting GIF animations
• Develop a creative storyboard and bring it to life through movement and timing
• Design an original character and animate short storytelling scenes

✨Supplies Provided for Classroom

We’re proud to offer students access to top-of-the-line tools to support their creativity! Our studio is equipped with the latest-generation iPads and Apple Pencils, giving every participant the opportunity to learn using professional-level digital equipment — no need to bring your own device.

If a student prefers to bring their own iPad and Apple Pencil, that’s completely welcome too! Just be sure that the device has the Procreate app installed and is fully charged each day.

✨Additional Details

Complimentary light snacks and drinks will be provided each day. Each student may pack their own water bottle and snack for break time, but please make sure any food is peanut-free!

While this is a screen-based class, we include plenty of screen breaks, sketching time, and off-screen creative discussions to keep our artists refreshed and inspired.
