Beginner Animation on the iPad (Summer Program for Ages 10+)
Draw, animate, and bring your imagination to life, expressing your ideas in motion!
In this immersive week-long summer program, learners will explore the exciting world of hand-drawn digital animation using iPads, Apple Pencils, and the amazing app called Procreate. Through step-by-step instruction and guided experimentation, participants will learn how to sketch, color, and animate original short scenes — all while discovering the basics of character design, motion, and visual storytelling. Whether brand new to Procreate or just getting started with animation, each learner will leave with a portfolio of playful animated clips and the confidence to keep creating on their own.
Our instructor, Lauren Beck, loves helping young creatives find their voice through digital tools and imaginative techniques. With her warm and inspiring teaching style, students will feel safe and excited to take creative risks and experiment in new ways.
📌 Note:
This camp is designed specifically for preteens or teens ages 10–17. To ensure the best creative experience, we ask that all participants fall within this age range when registering. Thank you!
Three-Day Breakdown:
-
Day One: BASICS & GIFS!
Laying the solid foundations of understanding of Procreate tools, by exploring simple animation techniques like looping, bouncing, and morphing, crafting GIF animations. -
Day Two: STORYBOARD & BEGIN FEATURE FILM!
Building on knowledge, planning out a simple storyline, bringing it to life with motion and storytelling. -
Day Three: FEATURE FILM CREATION!
Deep dive concentration on developing and finishing our feature films, showing our peers the completed work with a show at the very end! - OPTIONAL DAY FOUR can be added as "Open Friday Studio for Preteens & Teens" in order to finish up work or simply explore materials in a relaxed way, with the instructor present for feedback. (see more info below)
Daily Schedule:
We allow drop-off starting at 8:45am, with our program beginning at 9:00am and finishing at 12:00pm, for 3-hours of instruction each day. There will be a complimentary snack once per day, where students can relax and take a break from their art making, or they can continue working as they munch. Pickup begins at 12:00pm, with a buffer of 15 minutes.
Open Friday Studio for Preteens & Teens:
Oftentimes, students need some additional time to finish up projects, or they just are having too much fun to stop for the week! We are opening up Fridays in the summer for an additional add-on day, which will offer participants a relaxed timeframe to continue exploring, or even try a new medium in a low-stress way to finish out their week.
Instructors will be available for assisting the art making, but they'll act as more of a facilitator keeping kids on task, answering questions, or offering suggestions. This will not be a formal lesson!
These days will also be open to any preteens and teens to drop in for creative time, so kids can bring their friends or join in on other weeks during the summer, too. Each participant must have a paid ticket to join the session.
Interested in adding on our Open Friday Studio? Add on the specific date in your cart at any time. We can host up to 18 preteens and teens during these special Fridays.

Complimentary light snacks will be provided each day. Each student may pack their own water bottle and snack for break time, but please make sure any food is peanut-free!
Since we'll be working with inks, paints, and other messy materials, we recommend wearing clothes that can get a little colorful, or bringing an art smock to cover up.
